Combat and healing

Every accepted attack deals damage immediately. Your class, equipment, level, realm, and the opponent's skills determine its strength.

The shape of a hit

Start with your hero's base damage, then account for equipment and active bonuses. Hero level contributes a factor of 1 + 0.03 × (level − 1). Conditional effects apply only when their key, rhythm, clock, or combat condition matches. A critical hit applies the relevant critical multiplier; boss skills and realm rules can modify the result.

An attack animation is feedback for the hit. Fast typing can deal several hits while one visual attack plays; the game does not queue a long animation for every stroke.

Critical hits

The Rogue starts with critical chance as a defining trait; other heroes can gain critical effects from gear and boons. Some item bonuses apply only on particular keys or conditions. An Ironhide opponent reduces non-critical strokes, making the distinction especially useful. Read the exact effects on item pages and your opponent's bestiary entry.

Healing through work

An accepted attack restores 0.12 HP, independent of its damage. Class bursts add fixed recovery, and active class bonuses, criticals, and equipped effects can add more healing. Hexing reduces attack healing; skill ward can soften that penalty. A larger maximum health pool does not make each hit heal more.

Recovery equipment may state a bonus per 1,000 strokes. That is a fixed amount spread across accepted attacks, not a percentage of maximum health. Critical-heal effects restore their stated amount on critical hits.

Maximum health

Starting health depends on the hero. Each level adds 0.5 HP to both current and maximum health, rather than refilling the bar. Equipment and boons can raise the maximum further. Beginning the next fight restores health for that encounter.

Higher maximum HP provides more room to survive. It does not automatically increase incoming bleeding or the fixed healing of each attack.

Learning the conditions

Conditional bonuses can reward letters, keyboard rows, special keys, modifier chords, copy-paste sequences, fast typing, pauses, clock windows, low health, or a wounded opponent. Read the condition alongside the value: a large bonus on a rare shortcut is different from a smaller bonus on every stroke. See input rules and the glossary.
